The whisper from the Sacred Heart

Tuesday after Epiphany - The great world built by tiny little things -

놀이터에서 묵상하기 2021. 1. 5. 17:39

" Wow, where did those things come from?"

The father next room was smiling at the door of my room with his eyes big.

I was sitting in a small area between my bed and desk, and small pieces of stuff were scattered around me.

"Well..  in a twinkle..."

I tap the box in my hand smiling awkwardly. Less than 1 year of my days here in Seoul, those things came and filled the corner of my room.

I got some boxed and plastic bag and was preparing my move. I was assigned to another place. I was thinking to get only little things ready in advance, but it took more time than I thought. The presents from my ordination early this year, and the things that I bought for the living in Seoul, and things that I  didn't arrange in time asked me more work than I expected.

It is my first time to stay in the same room for a year straight since I joined the congregation 11 years ago. I did this poor excuse to myself. Until last year while I was living in the seminary, we seminarian have to change room 4 times a year. The room was not big, there was space between the desk and bed, like only one person can lay down. But taking all thing out of the room and cleaning and move to another person's room was not an easy job. However, it took only a few hours for all of us to finish our movement. It saves us a little time if we move with the drawers without taking out all clothes in it.

When I did that, I found there is one common thing every time. What filled most of my room were not a huge thing, but little tiny things which usually did not get noticed very much. I found the same this time too. What filled most of my room were tiny little things.

While I was walking between throwing away and keeping, I also found what filled my heart was also tiny little unnoticeable things. and I also found the paradox that tiny little things had great power. Because I could remember how wonderful things tiny little things had done in my life. Such as a small smile, care or a worm word that can give great consol to other people.

While I was arranging my room, today's Gospel also came to me as the story about tiny little things.

Today's Gospel begins with and end with tiny little things.

Jesus made a miracle with tiny little things that disciples gave. Five loaves and two fishes were tiny little things but it fed over 5000 people. pieces left even filled twelve baskets.

What caught my attention was where the tiny little things that the miracle began came from. That was from the disciples.

Jesus did not make a miracle from nothing. He asked his disciples to share what they have with the others, and he made a wonderful miracle with tiny little things that the disples had shared.

The tiny little things that the disciples have shared were the beginning of the wonderful miracle.

Today’s a cosplayer gave me hope and courage. It reminded me that even though I have little things and I am a little being, God can make a wonderful miracle with me, if I share it with others.

And I also could see tiny little things in other people, which has great possibility.

The great world built by tiny little things, the kingdom of God.
